BSCA Port Visit 2024

As part of the continuing efforts to bridge academic learning with real-world industry practices, the BS in Customs Administration students of St. Thomas More College-Clark, Inc. recently participated in a comprehensive field activity that included visits to key customs and logistics facilities, as well as onsite seminars with regulatory agencies.

The multi-day activity covered strategic locations such as the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Bureau of Customs (BOC) office. These visits provided students with firsthand exposure to port operations, customs procedures, and import-export processes critical to the field of customs administration.

Included in the itinerary were warehouse tour and cargo handling equipment familiarization with CargoHaus Clark and MSTSI at Subic, which allowed participants to observe logistics workflows, safety protocols, and compliance checks conducted in various types of warehouse facilities. These immersive experiences helped enhance the students’ understanding of how cargoes are processed, documented, and monitored from port entry to final dispatch.

A significant part of the activity also featured on-site seminars and orientation sessions with the CLaP Escolta and the Tariff Commission. These seminars provided valuable insights into rules of origin, trade facilitation measures, and updates on international trade agreements. Experts from the field shared knowledge and answered students’ questions, deepening their appreciation of the regulatory environment in which customs professionals operate.

This experiential learning initiative successfully reinforced classroom knowledge with practical exposure and professional interaction, aligning well with the college’s commitment to producing competent and industry-ready customs professionals.
